Cody’s Challenge is Gonna Rock (again)!
By Brandon Holmes
Next Saturday over 100 racers will gather to rally up and down Mt Werner. I’ll be embarking on my seventh event. My goal is to race a better race than ever by working on my weaknesses (like sidestepping out of Lower Thirds), managing the course, and pushing myself for a better time. The event brings family and friends together to celebrate the life of Cody St. John on the mountain he dearly loved. Cody would have it no other way.
You never know until race day, but it looks like the weather could be clear and crisp. Let’s hope for a sunny beach party! And the course conditions should be awesome. Even with very challenging snow years, Kyle Lawton and Brian McGovern from Steamboat Ski Patrol plot a great course. They go the extra mile to accommodate both long and short course racers. After you get off the groomers, you follow a beautiful skin track through aspen groves, open meadows, and through dense pitches of pine trees.
When you get to the bottom, it’s Beer:30. This should be where you have your first drink of the day unless you had some stashed at the top of Pony Lift. Who doesn’t love a lazy Saturday beach party at Slopeside? It’s open to racers and non-racers who choose to live the good life and support the Cody St. John Foundation.
I hope to see you there!
