Codys Challenge 2021 Short Course Start

Happy Groundhog Day! Winter is here to stay it seems. We apologize for the lack of updates since our last but life gets in the way as they say. We have several items of news to share, first of all we’ve updated our website. Let us know what you think or if you find any issues.

We’ve also got a date set for the 18th Cody’s Challenge on Saturday, April 4th, 2026. More details to come as we approach that date. We will of course let everyone know when registration for the race is available.

The scholarship application is now available online, this should make the submission process easier (and free) for the applicants and easier for us to review and evaluate. That’s a win, win! The deadline for submission is still Mar 1st. Click here for more details

In more exciting news …

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at supporting the mental health and well-being of ski patrollers, The Cody St. John Foundation has announced a new partnership with the National Ski Patrol and Responder Alliance to deliver Trauma Resiliency Training to patrol teams across the United States.

The program is designed to equip ski patrollers with practical tools to manage stress, strengthen team cohesion, and foster long-term emotional resilience. These skills mirror international best practices used by emergency medical professionals and first responders, recognizing that ski patrollers—often first on the scene in mountain emergencies—face similar exposure to traumatic events.

Our pilot program launches at 10 Patrols for the 2025/26 Season: Buttermilk(CO), Crystal Mountain(WA), Keystone(CO), Loon(NH), Powder Mountain(UT), Purgatory(CO), Red River(NM), Ski Cooper(CO), Sun Valley(ID) and Sunday River(ME).

This partnership marks a significant step forward in recognizing and addressing the emotional demands of ski patrol work, setting a new standard for support and resiliency in mountain safety teams.
